Installation Notes:

  • Ensure the head is within .003 Inch end-to-end for optimal sealing.
  • Best practice: Machine both the head and block for perfect flatness.
  • If you do not surface the block, be sure to use an axe sharpening stone with 320 or finer to clean up the deck surface.
  • Engines
  • Be sure to use 625 studs
  • Always use a .120 Inch radiused cutter for precise groove formation.
  • Initial Torque: 130 ft-lbs at startup.
  • Hot Retorque: After reaching operating temperature, retorque while the engine is still warm.
  • Check Valve Lash: Each retorque further compresses the gasket, reducing valve lash - re-adjust as needed.
  • Final Check: Retorque at least once more before applying full load or RPM.
  • Apply a liberal amount of lube to the nut, washer, and threads so that all studs see a consistent clamp load.
  • Never exceed manufacturer torque limits - fasteners at full torque store significant potential energy.
